About Us

Who we are, what we cover and how NW Redhead answers color questions with clear explanations, mixing guides and visual swatches.

In short

NW Redhead (nwredhead.com) is an independent reference site that answers questions about color — what colors mean, how to mix them, which shades work together and how color behaves in design, fashion, nature, science and technology.

What we do

People ask surprisingly specific questions about color every day: What two colors make brown? Does navy go with black? Which hair colors suit warm undertones? Why does the sky look blue? We collect those questions and answer them one by one, in plain language, with the key answer right at the top of every article.

Today the library holds 37,873 articles across 977 topics, and it keeps growing.

What you’ll find here

  • Color meanings and symbolism — in cultures, flags, religions, holidays, brands and psychology.
  • Mixing guides — paint, frosting and icing, hair dye, resin, clay and digital color.
  • Style and beauty — outfit combinations, skin undertones, makeup, nails and hair color.
  • Design and color theory — the color wheel, harmonies, contrast, HEX, RGB, CMYK and Pantone.
  • Technology — color settings and features in phones, apps, software, lights and screens.
  • Nature and science — animal coloration, flowers, gemstones, light, optics and how our eyes see color.

How we work

Our articles are built to be useful at a glance and trustworthy in detail:

  1. Answer first. The opening paragraph answers the question directly, so you don’t have to scroll to find it.
  2. Explain the why. We follow up with context, examples, step-by-step instructions and common mistakes.
  3. Show the color. When a question names specific colors, we display representative swatches with HEX codes you can copy.
  4. Check and update. We correct errors when readers point them out and update guides when standards, apps or best practices change.

You can read the details in our Editorial Policy.

How the site is funded

NW Redhead is free to read. We cover our costs with advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over what we write, and ads are always visually separate from our content. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies work.
